Hauptaufgaben

As part of a leisure time recreation program, provides technical guidance, instruction, and assistance to military and civilian shop patrons in automotive crafts. The participants range from complete novice to skilled mechanics, and cover a broad range of ages, backgrounds, education and experience. Performance of duties requires a combination of a practical knowledge of instructional methods and techniques and a practical knowledge of automotive crafts. Gives individual advice to military personnel, DAC personnel, and dependents having varying degrees of knowledge and ability in regard to automotive maintenance and repair of their POVs. Gives on the spot instructions to diagnose malfunctioning of motors, transmissions, brakes, clutches, drive shafts, universals, mufflers, wheel bearings, electrical and hydraulic systems, etc. Provides technical guidance and instruction to lower grade employees in various areas of automotive maintenance and repair. Explains or demonstrates the use of testing and diagnosing apparatus, valve refacing machine, electric drills, compressors, battery charger, spark plug cleaning and testing equipment, hydraulic jacks, lifting hoists, car wash systems, paint and body work areas, gauges, wrenches and various other hand and special tools. Supports these explanations by referring to manufacturer's manuals and other technical publications. Provides test service for personnel prior to purchase of used cars. Maintains accounts and collects fees for all vehicles in storage lot, parts sold from strip lot and shop fees for services. Maintains all documents for fund accountability to include bank deposits.
As hand receipt holder is responsible for the safeguarding and condition of all equipment assigned to the shop. Inspects equipment used to determine service ability and need for repair. Performs user maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and submits requests to have equipment repaired and/or replaced; requisitions hand tools as needed. Keeps record of condition of equipment prior to issue to patrons and checks condition upon turn-in. Maintains a current technical library and keeps current on state-of-the-art techniques and developments in the automotive field.
Provides environmental services to community. Tows away all abandoned vehicles in the community area. Disposes of all abandoned vehicles either through resale, turn in to strip lot or through disposal through commercial means. Provides turn-in area for used batteries, old oil, antifreeze, oil filters, etc. Coordinates with local environmental agencies to properly dispose of these hazardous items.
Provides upkeep and general maintenance for NAF vehicles within the community. Provides user maintenance and minor repairs and make arrangements to have major repairs done by local venders.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
As supervisory recreation assistant renders technical guidance, instruction and assistance to shop patrons on make-up, operation and installation of all components, assemblies and systems of all types of privately owned vehicles of American or foreign manufacture. Performs all administrative functions required to keep the shop functioning. Submits projected budget proposals for supplies and equipment. Schedules work hours for shop and special programs. Ensures security and proper "housekeeping" of shop. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion. Assigns and reviews work of subordinate employees on a weekly and daily basis. Assures that accuracy requirements are met, approves leaves, gives advice and counsel, resolves informal complaints of employees and effects minor disciplinary measures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifikationsanforderungen

C-5a:

Basic Qualification Requirements for all Education and Training (E&T) Levels:
Completed apprenticeship as Automotive Mechanic or a directly related occupation, or, minimum of 4 years of experience as defined in B below.

E&T Level I: Basic qualification requirements as outlined above PLUS 3 years of creditable experience as defined in A below.
Current employees who do not meet E&T Level I and who are not in the same or similar occupation must have 3 additional years of creditable experience as described in A below.

E&T Level II: Basic qualification requirements as outlined above PLUS 2 years of creditable experience as defined in A below.

E&T Level III and higher: Basic qualification requirements as outlined above.
Higher level education cannot be used to substitute the basic qualification requirements outlined above, unless it is directly related to the automotive mechanic field.

Current employees who have served one year in the same or similar occupation are qualified for the next higher grade.
Experience A: Included simple clerical work in an office or store, working with computers, bookkeeping, making and recording inventories, telephone marketing, arranging for events or as a cashier, etc.
Experience B: Experience in the same or similar line of work as the job for which considered. The experience must demonstrate that the applicant possesses the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to provide technical guidance and assistance on makeup, operation and installation of all components, assemblies and systems of all types of privately owned auto vehicles of American or foreign manufacture and is typically gained by working in the subject field at the equivalent to the journeyman level.


Drivers license CE and forklift desired.
English Language Proficiency level C1 AND German Language Proficiency level C1 required.

The incumbent of this position is occasionally required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel).
Shift work, as well as working on weekends and holidays required. (Day and evening shift)
Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
