Contract Electrical Engineer

Job Description

Danfoss in Plymouth, MN is seeking a Contract Electrical Engineer to join our Product Maintenance and Improvement (PMI) team. The PMI Engineer understands and utilizes engineering principles, education and relevant technology to develop and support all new, improved, or additional features of products and their applications. Accomplishes the engineering tasks in a cost effective and timely manner. May assist sales, production, quality or procurement in technical matters. Applies engineering knowledge, experience and/or education to complex or demanding engineering designs and tasks. The PMI Engineer will work in the CCS (Connect & Control Solutions) Business Unit and report to the Director of Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Develops a complete product functional understanding. Stays updated in engineering and technology related to Danfoss products.
  • Accomplishes the engineering design, development, modification or adaptation of products in one or more of the following ways, depending on functional assignment:
    • Conducts analysis and testing for the validation of products.
    • Solves functional, application, or production problems.
    • Improves the functional capabilities of existing products.
    • Redesigns existing products to achieve new requirements, features, costs reduction, or updates due to obsolete components or to reach current “state of the art”.
  • Independently applies engineering knowledge, experience, and education to complex or demanding engineering tasks. Organizes, prioritizes, and completes work assignments with quality and in a timely manner.
  • Assists sales, marketing, service, production, drafting, design, procurement, supplier and operations personnel in technical matter and direction.
  • Responds with commitment and sensitivity to satisfying the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Promotes quality and continuous improvement philosophy.
  • Applies creative approaches and ideas to solving problems, maximizing effective use of appropriate resources.
  • Maintains cooperative and productive working relationships and communications with all employees. Facilitate cross-functional discussions.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area.

Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Apply advanced mathematical concepts such as algebra, calculus, probability and statistics, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Knowledge about ECAD tools and mechanical CAD tools. Experience with Altium Designer and NX is a plus.
  • Read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, PCB layout and drawings.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or graphical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Utilize basic knowledge of the following equipment: digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, PC data acquisition hardware, inspection equipment, signal generators, power supplies, RF equipment and current probes.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information to development engineers, production operators, management teams and public groups.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrate good problem solving, communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in approach and ideas.
  • Responds positively and supports changes in procedures, process, technology, responsibility, and assignments.
  • Demonstrates advanced interpersonal skills.
  • Is supportive of other team members.
